A major new update in the regeneration plans for the area around Manchester United's Old Trafford football stadium has been announced.

Lord Sebastian Coe, who won four Olympic medals and headed the successful bid for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has already been named as chair designate of the Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), which will help drive forward the huge project.

Karen Hirst has now been named as Project Director, working alongside Lord Coe. The chartered surveyor will lead delivery for the corporation.

The establishment of the MDC has been approved by Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, following a recommendation by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham . It will be legally formalised
