BOARDMAN A truckload of donated clothing and other goods for people in third-world countries was ruined after a fire broke out this morning in Boardman.
Flames broke out in the trailer parked behind the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store on Market Street at around 9 a.m. Friday.
The first firefighter to arrive reported smoke coming from the trailer, and crews had to cut into its side to reach the fire.
St. Vincent DePaul Executive Director Alan Ricks told 21 News that the truck was nearly filled with donated items that the Thrift Center can't use. The trailer was owned by another charity that distributes the goods to needy people overseas.
Ricks says no one at the thrift store was injured but notes that St. Vincent DePaul staff put a lot of work into loading the truck.
