A popular northern Michigan fish and chips restaurant is expanding its reach to the south.
Scalawags Whitefish & Chips, established in 1992 in Mackinaw City, is opening new a location in Georgia. Owner Tyler Brown began franchising to help people start their own businesses and be successful while continuing to grow the brand.
Brown grew up between Michigan and Georgia, and has some business partners in the south that who wanted to open a location. The franchise will be in Evans, near Augusta, where the Masters Tournament is held at Augusta National Golf Club, he said.
The website does not list an opening date for the restaurant. Scalawags Whitefish & Chips is known for its whitefish, tartar sauce, whitefish chowder, chicken tenders and hushpuppies.
