A former Obama administration staffer claimed during a new podcast interview that there is a big "problem" with President Donald Trump's outburst at Democrats.
On Wednesday, several Democrats published a video telling America's military members that they can ignore "illegal orders." Trump and several GOP members responded by calling the video "seditious" and "treasonous." Trump escalated the fight on Thursday when he said the "seditious behavior" could be "punishable by death" in a Truth Social post.
Jon Favreau, Obama's former speechwriting director, and Dan Pfeiffer, Obama's senior advisor on strategy and communications, discussed Trump's outburst on a new episode of "Pod Save America" on Friday.
"I don't know if it's just a reflection of how much news there is or how innerd we are to Trump saying crazy s--- like this, but the President of the United States calling for Democrats to be hanged seems like it should be the top story everywhere," Favreau said.
"You're right," Pfeiffer added. "I think this is as much a media problem as is a cultural problem where we just have gotten we are sort of uncomfortably numb to Trump."
Pfeiffer added that there were people in previous Trump administrations who may have prevented the president from leveling such threats. However, those people appear to be gone.
"He's calling for the execution of this person because back then, as much as we worried about it, there was no follow-through," Pfeiffer added. "There actually were people trying to prevent him from following through by just distracting him like a small child."
