COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVG) — Ohio is moving to eliminate the state’s absentee ballot grace period.
Currently, as long as ballots are postmarked in the mail by the day before election day, they can be received four days after the election and still count.
Lawmakers sent a bill to the governor to require ballots be received by election day. Thirty-four other states have a similar deadline.
The Department of Justice urged Ohio to make the change and threatened legal action if it didn’t.
