Rider University wrestling coach John Hangey invited the school’s new president, John R. Loyack, to be the honorary captain for the Broncs’ 24-16 home-opening win over Michigan State on Sunday .
Loyack accepted, and enjoyed seeing one of the programs at his new school come away with an impressive victory against a team from the Big Ten, the nation’s toughest conference.
“He’s a very busy guy, as I am,” said Hangey. “He has bigger fish to fry than the wrestling program. We have an honorary coach at every match. It was nice of him to agree to do this. I hope he enjoyed his time. He looked like he did.
“He was in there in the pre-match speech and came out and said ‘That was awesome.’ He (earned his MBA from) Lehigh, he knows the stakes, he knows wrestling. This wasn’t anything new for hi
