NEW DELHI: The pilot of the Tejas fighter jet that crashed during the Dubai Airshow has been identified as Wing Commander Namansh Syal. The incident occurred on Friday around 2:10 PM local time, when the aircraft lost altitude mid-manoeuvre and crashed near Al Maktoum International Airport, resulting in a fireball that shocked onlookers.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences on social media, stating, "The news of the demise of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district's brave son Naman Syal ji in the Tejas aircraft accident at the Dubai Air Show is extremely heartbreaking and soul-shattering. The nation has lost a courageous, dutiful, and valiant pilot."
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced a court of inquiry to investigate the cause of the crash and expressed deep regret over the loss of life, standing in solidarity with Syal's family. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior military officials also conveyed their condolences.
Syal, hailing from Kangra district, was remembered for his bravery and dedication to service. CM Sukhu further stated, "I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Salute to the brave son. Heartfelt salute to the indomitable bravery, dedication and devotion towards the service of the nation of Syalji."
