Dermot Mulroney has confirmed an exciting update about the long-awaited “My Best Friend’s Wedding” sequel, nearly 30 years after the original rom-com was released in 1997.

“Last I heard, they hired a screenwriter,” Mulroney, 62, exclusively told The Post while promoting his newest movie, “Long Shadows.”

“That’s what I heard most recently, and that’s a very concrete step,” he continued. “Rather than somebody wanting to be in a movie, which it might have been up until then.”

Rumors that a writer was on board to pen the “My Best Friend’s Wedding” sequel kicked off in July when Collider reported that Sony tapped Celine Song for the job.
