THE Isle of Eigg has urged the UK and Scottish Governments to back a COP30 bid for a just transition from renewables to fossil fuels.
The community-owned island on Scotland’s west coast is home to 120 people, all of whom are members of the Isle of Eigg Residents Association (IERA). They have called for the Governments to back the Belem Action Mechanism at Cop30 in Brazil.
Eigg is not connected to mainland electricity supply, instead powering the community with renewable energy from wind, solar and water.
The Belem Action Mechanism for a Just Transition, known as BAM, got a huge boost last week after the G77 and China, collectively representing 80% of the world’s population, supported the move.
They emphasised the need to ensure just transitions are equitable, responsive to the divers
