AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The Akron Police Department confirmed at least one person was shot just before noon on Friday, Nov. 21.
The shooting happened on Russell Avenue near Yeager Way at approximately 11:39 a.m., Lt. Michael Murphy told 19 News.
Akron fire and EMS confirmed they were also called to the scene for a report of several people shot.
Nearby at the “ Open M ” non-profit ministry on Princeton Street, CEO Julie Carneal said they had just wrapped up their food distribution when the shots rang out.
She said “unfortunately, this happens all the time.”
A couple years ago, Carneal said they tried to save a man’s life after he was shot, but sadly, he did not survive.
