US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke by phone on Friday evening about the peace plan the United States has drafted for ending the war in Ukraine, a German government spokesperson said.
The two leaders spoke for a quarter of an hour, the spokesperson said. Merz will now inform other European partners in order to coordinate further steps.
The US plan, seen by Reuters, gives Russia – which is inching forward on the battlefield and controls almost one-fifth of Ukraine – much of what it wants.
Discussion of the plan is expected to dominate the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg that the leaders of Europe’s most powerful nations are attending this weekend,
