Gov. Ron DeSantis will soon enter his last year in office but his wish list of major items from the Legislature hasn’t diminished.
For the 60-day regular legislative session that starts Jan. 13, DeSantis has called on lawmakers to redraw the state’s congressional districts in a mid-decade year; eliminate property taxes for homestead residents; impose a ban on vaccine mandates for children in schools and enact regulations for artificial intelligence.
Even with Republican supermajorities in both chambers of the Legislature, each one of those items is highly controversial, complex and difficult to achieve.
Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, a former Senate President with more than 10 years of legislative experience, said it is likely too much for one legislative session.
