Recently, the Grand Forks County Commission and School Board have rightly demonstrated their trepidation on approving tax incentives. Both boards are resolute in resolving their budgetary challenges — challenges that they have inherited yet haven’t shied away from and are dealing with head on.

Moments like this could divide local subdivisions, as is happening in many communities across our fine state and nation. Grand Forks’ strength has always been our collaboration and our willingness to bet on ourselves in good times and in challenging times. Today is no different.

Over the last several years, we have been fortunate to draw large investments to Grand Forks in part through tax incentives, because we have been willing to forgo short-term revenues for much larger revenues in the future.
