The number of people getting the flu vaccine has declined, and case numbers are on the rise.

Anywhere from 30 to 38 percent of Tennesseans are vaccinated for the flu. Doctor Stephen Miller with the Hamilton County Health Department says that number is too low to protect us this flu season.

"We're lower. We need to be at 70 percent in order to provide enough immunity - like what we call herd immunity - to protect everyone here in our county,” said Miller.
