Defending Division 2 state champion Country Day will go for back-to-back titles on Saturday at Kellogg Arena after the Yellowjackets beat Grand Rapids Christian 18-25, 30-28, 25-23, 25-23 in Friday’s state semifinal.
Elise Hiemstra led Country Day with 19 kills. Aliyah Potapenko had 10 kills. Payton Woodruff had 34 assists.
Grace Goodyke had 17 kills for the Eagles. Mya McKinnon had 12 kills. Piper Cebulski had 19 assists and 14 digs. Taylor Frost had 18 assists and 11 digs.
The Eagles got off to a strong start in Set 1, taking the first seven points including back-to-back Taylor Frost aces, and later extended that lead to 10-2 after an ace from Rylee Anderson and a kill from Goodyke.
The Yellowjackets got within a few points at times later in that set, but Grand Rapids Christian soon
