KEMPTVILLE – An expansion of the area’s broadband connectivity and accelerated planning for the region’s electricity future were among the highlights of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s Economic Development Summit Friday.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark used the Kemptville event to announce that work will begin in February 2026 on regional power planning for the St. Lawrence region, thus accelerating the planning study seven months ahead of schedule.

The work is expected to result in the St. Lawrence region’s first-ever Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP), said Clark.
