Thanksgiving travel is expected to hit a record high this year, with nearly 82 million Americans planning to travel at least 50 miles from home for holiday celebrations, according to AAA’s 2025 forecast .
The Nov. 17 report, which accounts for the period from the Tuesday before and Monday after Thanksgiving, projects that nearly two million more people will travel for the holiday than last year .
"Thanksgiving travel numbers are always impressive because this holiday has become synonymous with heading out of town to spend time with loved ones," said Vice President of AAA Travel Stacey Barber in the report. "People are willing to brave the crowds and make last-minute adjustments to their plans to make lifelong memories, whether it’s visiting extended family or meeting up with friends.
