Officials found human remains at the site of a burned out Brampton home on Friday, bringing the death toll to three after two were pronounced dead Thursday.

Three people who lived on the home’s upper floors were previously unaccounted for and it’s unclear if the remains found are those of a person police were searching for.

Large excavation machines were meticulously digging away at rubble at the semi-detached townhouse on Banas Way, near McLaughlin and Remembrance roads , on Friday morning but halted efforts once crews found the remains of an adult in the afternoon. No more work would be done until a coroner could arrive at the scene, Peel police spokesperson Tyler Bell-Morena told reporters in a mid-afternoon update.
