The federation representing Quebec’s family doctors said that it was filing a legal challenge Friday to a recently adopted law reforming doctors’ pay and that it is asking the court to suspended the law until the challenge is heard.
The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec said the law — commonly known as Bill 2 — has had a catastrophic impact since it was adopted Oct. 25 and that the situation is so urgent, the organization can’t wait for a judge to rule on the merits of its case.
“No society can allow such a law to be implemented, a law whose predicted consequences — loss of physicians, closure of clinics, collapse of front-line care — will directly compromise the access, the continuity and the safety of care,” the FMOQ said in a statement.
