President Donald Trump had nothing but good things to say about New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani following a White House meeting on Friday, Nov. 21.

The meeting between the two leaders came weeks after Mamdani, 34, won the general election on Nov. 4 to become NYC's first Muslim and South Asian mayor after months of campaign-season insults and warnings.

“I think you’re going to have, hopefully, a great mayor,” said Trump, who occasionally patted the mayor-elect on the arm. The president's kind words toward Mamdani were reciprocated when the democratic socialist star remarked that their meeting was positive.

“It was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers," Mamdani said.
