CHEROKEE, Iowa (KTIV) - How many purses do you have in your closet that you aren’t using?

A ministry based out of Cherokee is touching the lives of women all over the state of Iowa.

“Handbags With Hope” is putting together bags full of toiletries and giving them to women who are struggling with abuse and addiction. Those handbags are then donated to different organizations throughout the state.

Since 2015, Minister Tamerra Henderson has met women facing hardships, handing them a purse full of comfort items and full of hope. She began her work in Illinois, relocated to Iowa in 2020, and continued her mission.

Since she started, she’s given out over 3,000 gently used purses, and each year grows more.

Last year, 270 purses were given out.
