MAINE, USA — With the holidays just around the corner and uncertainties regarding SNAP benefits still looming, food insecurity is top of mind for many Mainers.
"We have a very high level of food insecurity within the state," Kim Lengert, who serves as program director for the Maine Ending Hunger Corps, said.
According to the latest "Map the Meal Gap" study from Feeding America, over 1 in 8 Mainers have experienced food insecurity.
To meet that need, the Maine Department of Agriculture and Maine Ending Hunger Corps have launched an interactive online map to help people find food across the state.
At Eastern Maine Community College’s food pantry , volunteers are packing up holiday meals—including cranberry sauce, apples, and a choice of protein—for families in need.
