Yesterday, our Lukas Vlahos laid out the cases for the Mets’ various non-tender candidates, highlighting eight players who could be considered on the bubble. Of those eight players, seven were tendered contracts by the Mets, with only Max Kranick being non-tendered from that group. However, two other pitchers were non-tendered in the process: Danny Young and José Castillo.
Kranick underwent Tommy John surgery in July and expects to miss most or all of 2026. The same can be said for Danny Young, who is ahead of Kranick on a recovery timeline having gone under the knife in May, but who was expected to at least begin the year on the shelf.
Castillo is a different story, as he was claimed off of waivers by the Mets on November 6, having made sixteen appearances for the club this season.
