Supermodel Paulina Porizkova called the perfection flaunted in popular "get ready with me" social media videos overrated.
Yet, she said she can't get enough of the videos, where people document their wardrobe routine as they embark on their day, adding that she feels a sense of accomplishment consuming the content in her bathrobe. So she decided to participate in what she calls "an easy art form" by making her own getting dressed video.
The 60-year-old author posted her own version of the trend, showing off her gray robe before donning lingerie from Victoria's Secret and a bra from Third Love as she prepares for a day of writing on her typewriter at home. She put on her favorite pair of Rag & Bone jean sweatpants and a sweatshirt of a squirrel holding a camera, gifted by her new fiancé, Jeff Greenstein, 62.
She also showed off her hip scars from a lateral hip replacement procedure as she honed in on the value of embracing imperfections.
"If you’re like me, you will also zero in on the shape of my body - and hopefully - think with relief, 'ah, she’s not perfect either,'" she wrote in the post's caption. "And then you can give yourself a little break and wrap your arms around your imperfect self and give it some love. Because our imperfections are what makes us a perfect original."
Porizkova wrapped up the video by putting on her eye contact lenses, a pinch of makeup and a pair of Victoria's Secret slippers.
"And I'm ready to go and spend my day comfortably at home," she said in the video.
Paulina Porizkova has fought stigmas on aging
Since starting her career as a top model in the '80s, Porizkova has challenged the barriers older models face in the industry.
"When I was a young woman, I didn't think much of aging. I thought of aging as something that happens to other people. And I thought by the time I was that older woman, somehow I would not have the same kind of interest in life as I did as a younger woman," Porizkova told USA TODAY last year. "Being in this second part of life now and knowing what age is and what age brings, it's such a tremendous time."
Now she encourages others to look forward to getting older rather than dreading it.
"Life will only get better as long as you're not afraid of it," she added. "This is a fantastic place to be. Don't waste time trying to be younger. Embrace who you are right now because you are at your very best right now. It's not going to get any better than this, so enjoy it while it lasts."
