ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — More than 4 million people are expected to pass through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport this Thanksgiving season, officials said.

“It’s the Super Bowl period for the airport, so we’re all excited,” said airport General Manager Ricky Smith.

The Thanksgiving travel period runs from Thursday, Nov. 20, to Tuesday, Dec. 2. The busiest day is expected to be Dec. 1 with an estimated 375,000 passengers, according to airport leaders.

“However, that 375,000 level will be down compared to last year because a number of prospective travelers were somewhat leery of traveling via air because of the government shutdown, so many of them decided to travel by car,” said Smith.
