WITH DEVELOPERS for the Steeplegate Mall in Concord appearing to have abandoned plans to tear down the structure to make way for 625 apartments, Costco and other retailers, Andrew Pinard’s initial reaction was simple.
“You have to be kidding me,” he wrote on Facebook.
The owners, Onyx Partners of Needham, Mass., now appear poised to lease “anchor” and “junior” anchor space, but there appears to be no interior access. The project is being branded as Steeplegate Crossing .
Pinard’s Hatbox Theatre was told to vacate the property at the end of January of last year in order for portions of the building to be torn down. Onyx had received multiple approvals to transform the languishing mall built in 1990 into a mixed-use development.
