Kate Middleton has been sporting a lighter and blonder hair color during recent appearances and she just made a rare comment about her look.

While backstage at the Royal Variety Performance this week, Kate chatted with actress Su Pollard about her hair.

Su told Kate , “I like your hair, it looks a lot lighter.”

The Daily Mail reports that Kate responded, “It used to be brown, but it’s gone light in the sunshine.”

A hair color expert chatted with the outlet and said that she likely also got highlights. “Lightening the hair in the sun can occur over time, but the effect is often less dramatic than for those with a naturally lighter base,” the expert said.
