SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Crashes involving pedestrians in the city of Springfield have recently sparked concerns over pedestrian safety.

In 2024, Missouri saw a record high year when it comes to pedestrian fatalities in the state. At 148, it was a 16% increase from 2023.

On Tuesday, a man from Oregon became the most recent person to be killed on Springfield streets in a car versus pedestrian crash.

“For pedestrians, don’t just assume because you are crossing the road or in the crosswalk, that other drivers are going to see you,” said Lt. Steve Schwind, with Springfield Police.

And on Oct. 6, a 66-year-old woman was hit on Kansas Expressway and died from her injuries.
