TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A burn ban has been declared in Leon County amid continued exceptional drought conditions , according to a press release from the county.
The ban prohibits all open burning in the county and will take effect from 8 a.m. on November 22 until 11:59 p.m. on November 26, according to county officials.
“During the burn ban, all open burning in Leon County that is not specifically authorized by the Florida Forest Service is prohibited,” according to the county press release.
The last time Leon County was placed in an Exceptional drought was in 2012. Since September 1, Tallahassee has only recorded 1.53 inches of rain.
Since 1900, only one meteorological fall has been drier. In 1931, Tallahassee only recorded 1.14 inches from September 1 through November 30.
