New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Friday issued a strongly worded statement following President Donald Trump’s meeting with Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani, welcoming the President’s “renewed commitment" to New York while sharply condemning Islamophobic attacks from members of Trump’s own party.
Hochul said she appreciated Trump’s acknowledgement of shared priorities such as lowering costs and improving public safety. But her most pointed remarks addressed the political furor surrounding Mamdani, who has faced repeated attempts by GOP figures to weaponise his background, faith, and identity, some even labelling him a “jihadist."
