LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Community Playhouse is presenting the production of “Diary of Anne Frank,” featuring a Lincoln Police Department sergeant who returned to acting after more than two decades.

Wendi Ground, a sergeant with the Lincoln Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, plays Miep Gies in the production, a role that holds personal significance due to her family history.

“Any role in this show would have been special and important, but it was just, how much it mirrored some of the things that happened in my family made it more special,” Ground said.

Personal connection to history

Miep Gies hid the Frank family in Amsterdam during World War II. Ground said her family has a similar history of courage during the war.
