HOUSTON – Houston Humane Society is calling on the community to open their homes temporarily to pets in need this holiday season.

With hundreds of animals at Houston Humane looking for loving homes, the nonprofit hopes people will consider holiday fostering.

Houston animal rescue asks for temporary Thanksgiving fosters to help ease overcrowding

This means providing a temporary home for a dog or cat, giving them a break from shelter life for a few days or weeks.

“We have short-term foster opportunities,” said Bree Porter, Houston Humane Foster & Transport Manager. “Maybe you can only foster during the weekend, so pick up a dog or cat and keep them for two days. It gets them out of the shelter, they can decompress, dogs can go for walks, they can get those really good photos in the home
