As Paul McCartney launched into the first few lines of “Help” to officially open the renovated TD Coliseum on Friday, it felt like history was coming to life. That song. That voice. Those lyrics.
But the history wasn’t just in the music.
While it’s difficult to believe, the building he was filling with his endless collection of legendary tunes first opened just 15 years after he and the Beatles had split up.
For the past four decades, it’s been host to so many big events. All while standing largely unchanged — inside and out — at the corner of York and Bay. In recent years, it desperately needed a facelift. And maybe a tummy tuck, too.
