DULUTH — The winning entry in this year’s local snowplow-naming contest was unveiled Friday evening as the Christmas City of the North parade began to roll through the city.
Out of 66 entries, judges had to select just one winner, and they were bowled over, so to speak, by a name suggested by Gary Gibson of Duluth.
Gibson apparently drew his inspiration from a classic Coen Bros. film first screened in 1998.
The newest member of Duluth’s snowplow fleet will now be named The Big LePlowski, a moniker riffing on the title of a comedy that has developed an almost cultish following: “The Big Lebowski.” This flick about an affable but ne'er-do-well bowler has enjoyed enduring popularity, thanks to the performances of actors Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, David Huddl
