Maddie Leaney scored her third goal of the game at 2:54 of sudden-death overtime Friday to lead the Union women’s hockey team to a 4-3 ECAC Hockey upset of fourth-ranked Cornell at M&T Bank Center.

The victory was a measure of revenge for the Garnet Chargers (2-5-0 ECACH, 5 points, 6-7-2 overall) a measure of revenge against the Big Red (5-2-0, 15 points; 8-2-0). Cornell eliminated Union in last season’s ECACH tournament best-of-three quarterfinals, and won Game 2 on two late goals to erase a Union 2-1 lead.
