EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Several members of the East Hampton community fought against the new housing bill at a special meeting on Friday night.
The House and Senate passed the bill during their special session to address the state’s housing crisis. It is now sitting on the governor’s desk.
The bill would require towns to create housing growth plans and submit them to the state.
However, some community members are worried the plan will hurt their town.
“I think that it’s state level overreach. I think its counter to what the town voted for in the elections a couple weeks ago,” said Bryon Turner of East Hampton.
A similar bill was vetoed by the governor last session, but he is expected to sign this new one into law next week.
