Shubman Gill is not playing for India in the ongoing second Test against South Africa at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati due to a neck injury that he suffered on Day 2 of the first India-South Africa Test at Eden Gardens last week. In Gill’s absence, his red-ball deputy Rishabh Pant is leading the hosts. The first-ever Test match in Guwahati is also Pant’s first Test as captain of Team India. He is the 38th player to captain India in Tests and only the second designated wicketkeeper-batter after MS Dhoni to lead Team India in Tests.
As Gill’s replacement, India have included B Sai Sudharsan in the playing XI, but it will be interesting to see who comes out to bat for India in the No. 4 position.
