An international student has spent her birthday in hospital after a stranger allegedly attacked her at random in Melbourne’s CBD.
The 23-year-old victim, who only wished to be known as Kimberlie, was walking on Queen St when police say a 29-year-old woman allegedly struck her in the upper body with an object about 3.40pm on Saturday.
Kimberlie had just stepped out and was only a few minutes into her walk, texting a friend, when the woman approached her from the front.
“I didn’t even notice her until her arm swung towards my face and hit me,” Kimberlie told 7NEWS.com.au.
“I think she was aiming for my eye, but my glasses helped protect me.”
She instinctively covered the wound above her right eyebrow, unable to see clearly, and only realised she was bleeding when passersby offered her
