Iwas expecting an old man's boozer that hadn't kept up with the times - instead I found the complete opposite

As I continue my quest to review all the pubs in Derby city centre , I took myself to a pub that caught my eye a few months ago, just a stone's throw from where my journey started, at the Exeter Arms .

At the opposite end of Exeter Place is what I presume is its rival, The Royal Standard, formerly The Tap, and, for some reason, I went inside under the incorrect presumption that this pub wouldn't be up to scratch.

I don't know if it was the street on which it lies, which from the outside doesn't seem to have much substance to it, or just the fact that city centre pubs can be
