MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Federal legislation is changing what areas of study are considered “professional degrees,” altering eligibility for federal loans and leaving students concerned about their future.
Nursing is one of many degree programs that used to be considered a “ professional degree ” but will no longer have the same opportunities as before.
UW-Madison nursing students say they are heartbroken and frustrated by this change.
Students feel undermined by classification change
On Friday, some UW students learned of the change that their field of study would no longer be considered a “professional degree.”
“I think the biggest thing is that it felt very undermining or like invalidating of how big of a career nursing is in general and how much nurses do,” explained Marion Sterk-
