A moderate earthquake in Bangladesh on Friday morning sent tremors across West Bengal and parts of Northeast India, briefly disrupting daily activity and a Test match in Dhaka. No damage or casualties were reported.
Preliminary readings from seismic agencies placed the quake’s magnitude between 5.2 and 5.7.
It struck at 10:08 am (IST) at a depth of 10 km, with the epicentre located near Ghorasal in Dhaka at latitude 23.77°N and longitude 90.51°E, according to the US Geological Survey and early data from the National Centre for Seismology.
In Kolkata, people felt the tremors around 10:10 am and rushed out of homes and buildings. Social media users shared videos of fans and furniture shaking; one resident in Salt Lake Sector 3 said the tremor lasted seven to eight seconds. Similar reports
