Harsha Upadhyaya, Chief Investment Officer at Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, which manages assets of nearly $5.84 billion, believes Indian stock markets are entering a more balanced phase after a strong global run. While global equities have seen a pullback, he says Indian markets should not be viewed in the same light.
According to him, India’s market is now less dependent on foreign investors than in the past. Earlier, heavy selling by foreign institutions would cause sharp falls, but this impact has reduced significantly.
He also pointed out that Indian stocks have underperformed global markets by nearly 30% over the past year, which makes current valuations look more reasonable.
