INDIANAPOLIS — Todd Wilkerson understood not much could be said to lift spirits.
His Heritage Hills football team huddled together for the final time. Few eyes, if any, weren't swelled up as the season came to an unceremonious close one step shy of the ultimate goal. Wilkerson wasn't interested in a 'woe is us' attitude in this moment.
His final words were purposeful. This group needed to be proud of what transpired over the last three years.
"They've done things that no group has ever done in Heritage Hills history," Wilkerson later said.
No. 3 Heritage Hills came up one victory shy of a third straight state champoinship appearance, losing 42-14 to No. 5 Roncalli in the Class 4A semi-state at Bob Tully Field.
