Speaking at a book launch event in Bhopal, Dhankhar, speaking in his own inimitable style as he did during his Rajya Sabha days, opened his speech by speaking of his long public absence.

"Four months later, on this occasion, on this book, in this city, I should have no hesitation to speak," Dhankhar said. Dhankhar, 74, resigned as the vice president on July 21, citing health concerns, just a day after the Parliament Monsoon session kicked off.
