Matt Kling is hoping for a perfect ending in his final game kicking for the Sacred Heart football team.
The graduate student, a 6-foot-1, 201-pounder from Canton Central Catholic High School, has connected on 29 extra points without a miss for the Connecticut-based Pioneers. He’s also 9-for-12 in field goals with the longest 49 yards and is second on the team in scoring with 65 points. And he is averaging 60.8 yards on 51 kickoffs with 25 touchbacks.
Kling had a big performance last season when he was tied for the scoring lead with 52 points, going 22-for-23 in extra points and 10-for-12 in field goals. He didn’t see action in 2023 but kicked off and played defense in 2022.
Sacred Heart takes an 8-3 record into Saturday’s game at Villanova.
