As experts urge parents should wait until their child is at least 14 before they hand over a smartphone, mum-of-three Makeda Hemans tells The Mirror why she regrets letting her daughter have one too soon

Leading experts have sent a warning to parents over the too-early usage of smartphones in children. Daisy Greenwell, co-founder and director of Smartphone Free Childhood , says: "We recommend waiting until your child is at least 14 for a smartphone, and 16 for social media. That way your child is older and more ready to deal with the world they’ll inevitably find there."
