Travis Head's explosive century led Australia to a commanding eight-wicket victory over England in the first Test of the Ashes series at Perth, completed in just two days. This match marked the shortest Ashes Test in 137 years, with Australia chasing down a target of 205 runs in only 28.2 overs. Head, who was promoted to open the innings due to Usman Khawaja's back injury, scored a remarkable 123 runs off just 83 balls, hitting 16 fours and four sixes. His aggressive batting style dismantled England's bowling attack, forcing them into a defensive strategy.

Australia's innings began with Head forming a crucial 75-run partnership with Jake Weatherald, before he and Marnus Labuschagne added 117 runs for the second wicket. Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 51 as Australia reached their target with ease. Head's innings not only set the tone for the match but also showcased his ability to shift momentum quickly, a vital trait for the series ahead.

The match itself was a rollercoaster, with a total of 30 wickets falling for 468 runs across both teams. England struggled in their first innings, scoring 172 runs, and managed only 164 in their second innings, with Mitchell Starc taking seven wickets in the first innings. Head's performance was particularly notable as he achieved the second-fastest century in Ashes history, reaching the milestone in just 69 balls, and equalled the record for the fastest century by an opener in Test cricket.

As the series progresses, Australia has extended its unbeaten streak in home Ashes Tests to 16 matches, with 14 wins and two draws since the 2010-11 series. The second Test will take place at The Gabba in Brisbane, starting December 4, following a warm-up match for England against the Prime Ministers' XI on November 29.
