In the heart of Calgary’s Beltline community stands the historic YWCA building. Or, as it is affectionately known today, the Old Y. The century-old landmark has long served this city as a vibrant hub for grassroots organizations and community initiatives.

For decades, this much-loved heritage building has been a lifeline for non-profit organizations in need of affordable, centrally located space. It was purpose-built in 1911 to be a YWCA hostel supporting single women new to the city.

Sixty years later, when the YWCA moved out, the City of Calgary took ownership, and the building became home to a diverse range of grassroots and non-profit organizations.
