RAVENNA, Ohio — When C.J. Newell met Joe Saffold, he greeted him with an invite.

Saffold planned a trip to Houston in June for a seven-on-seven tournament. He asked Newell to join him. The gesture caught Newell by surprise.

“That’s when I really figured out who Joe was on and off the field,” Newell said Friday night after Glenville’s 35-7 win vs. Perry in the OHSAA Division IV regional finals. “Ever since that day, that’s been my guy. Joe shows up. He works every day.”
