Sukhbir Badal questions Centre’s move to separate Chandigarh from Punjab under 131st Amendment

Chandigarh, November 22, 2025 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today sharply questioned the Union government over its reported move to introduce the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, asking whether the Centre intended to “betray and discriminate against brave Punjabis” by permanently severing Chandigarh from Punjab.
In a statement here, the SAD president said the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill sought to take the union territory permanently out of Punjab’s administrative and political control. “It seeks to end Punjab’s claim to Chandigarh as it’s capital city”.
